Here I am, Lord 2020

A fusion dance connecting the classical form of Bharatanatyam with a traditional Western Hymn. Created by dancer and choreographer Dr. Jesica Sinniah (India) and dancer and cultural artist Shrimathi Susanna (UK) during the world pandemic Covid-19 in the spring and summer of 2020.

In March 2020, the UK government took the unprecedented decision to announce a national lock-down to help contain the deadly Coronavirus. Prompted by a text from Jesica Sinniah, a choreographer based in Bangalore, Southern India, discussions started about the possibility of choreographing a new Christian item. The new dance to be taught on a virtual platform, while both dancers were free from their normal teaching commitments. Jesica's thoughts are expressed through the choreography she gave Susanna. During the choreographic process, Jesica reflected over the lyrics giving them very personal gestures using the vocabulary of the classical Indian dance form of Bharatanatyam. This rich collaboration gave both dancers focus and excitement through a very challenging global pandemic and they are both delighted with the results. Photographer and film maker, Bill Hiskett has filmed all of Susanna's liturgical dances on YouTube. Bill was able to capture the beauty of the choreography in the soft landscape of Great Cornard Country Park, in Suffolk, UK. Song: Here I am, Lord by Rings True.
